The countryside surrounding the hotel is ideal for walking. The owners of the nearby Château Smith Haut Lafitte welcome visitors for wine tasting tours. The city of Bordeaux is only 10 miles away from Les Sources de Caudalie and offers a selection of excellent museums, neoclassical architecture and well-tended parks. This section of the coastline offers stunning sandy beaches and the warm Atlantic winds mean the climate is mild all year round. We recommend hiring a car for the day and visiting the Dune de Pyla, Europe’s biggest sand dune, just outside Arcachon.

Local Golf courses can be booked through the hotel. Boat excursions to the Arachon Bay by boat are available at a charge.
We could not have been in a better place for a weekend retreat for a group of ladies; the hotel and staff were truly exceptional. The location, rooms and food are excellent of course but in addition we were made to feel very welcome and the staff were very helpful, friendly and efficient. I really can't recommend the hotel highly enough and would happily go back.Ms W, April 2016

Luxury bespoke holidays and tours to Les Sources de Caudalie, near Bordeaux
Les Sources de Caudalie in Martillac is situated at the very heart of the Smith Haut Lafitte vineyard. Owned by the same family as the vineyard, guests can enjoy a wide selection of fine wines as accompaniment to the delicious French cuisine offered by Les Sources de Caudalie's two restaurants: two Michelin-starred 'La Grand Vigne' which offers refined, classical dishes and the more casual 'Table du Lavoir' offering regional cuisine in a beautiful beamed room. The chef, Nicolas Masse, runs the hotel's three restaurants which have views over the vineyard. The open wood fire in the stylish, yet extremely cosy bar creates a very atmospheric ambience in which to relax and enjoy the region's wines and Armagnac brandy. For a culinary treat, cooking and wine tasting classes are available at the hotel and are followed by lunch in La Grand Vigne. The 61 bedrooms at Les Sources de Caudalie, each with individual names, are decorated individually to reflect the style and colours of the region. Situated in the various wings and in little houses in the hotel grounds, the bedrooms have private bathroom, air conditioning, television, telephone, mini-bar, safe and hairdryer. One of the highlights of Les Sources de Caudalie is its wonderful vinotherapy spa, the perfect place to relax in the hot spring-fed swimming pool or treat yourself the endless list of vinotherapy, which use the Caudalie products and cosmetics based on grape and vine extracts.

About Bordeaux Region
An Expressions tailor-made holiday to Bordeaux is a chance to explore a region renowned the world over for its wines and its awe-inspiring chateaux, whilst Cognac is less explored yet holds a countless store of treasures waiting to be appreciated. The Bordeaux region is ideal for short breaks and touring holidays with a range of sights to discover. Cognac country is a perfect destination for the discerning traveller as it is still relatively unknown yet is within very easy reach of more popular areas such as the coastal resorts between La Rochelle and Royan about 30 minutes` drive to the west, the Medoc and Saint Emilion vineyards about 45 minutes` drive to the south and the intriguing Marais Poitevin about an hour`s drive to the north. Moreover, the cuisine has a character of its own, utilising cognac, pineau and Marennes oysters. A holiday to the Bordeaux and Cognac regions is highly recommended. A fantastic way to discover the region is to incorporate it into a self-drive touring holiday, flying to Bordeaux and then exploring this area as well as the Basque Country and Carcassonne by hire-car. It is also accessible by train, such as in our suggested rail holiday travelling to the Loire Valley and Bordeaux which also allows you to explore by hire-car.
Highlights of Bordeaux
Visit vineyards and chateaux, for tasting and buying. Visit the oyster beds. Experience the Cognac distilleries, and the Romanesque architecture. Bordeaux is the historical centre for wine however you may also visit the villages of the wine region such as St Emilion.
