Out and about nearby
The village of Lourmarin lies just a short walk from the hotel, with its Friday morning market beneath the plane trees, Renaissance château, and narrow streets lined with galleries, boutiques, and café terraces. The château, dating from the 15th century, hosts concerts and cultural events throughout the summer months. The neighbouring village of Cucuron, with its large étang, provided the setting for scenes in the film ‘A Good Year’ and hosts a popular Tuesday morning market. Bonnieux sits perched on a hillside to the north, its 12th century church offering sweeping views across the Luberon valley towards Lacoste, once home to the Marquis de Sade and now known for Pierre Cardin’s restored château. The ochre village of Roussillon, with its vibrant earth-toned houses and the Sentier des Ocres walking trail through former quarries, lies within comfortable reach. The Abbey of Sénanque, a 12th century Cistercian monastery surrounded by lavender fields, provides one of Provence’s most photographed scenes, particularly when the lavender blooms in late June and July. Wine enthusiasts can explore estates throughout the Côtes de Luberon appellation, whilst the antiques market in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, held every Sunday, draws collectors and browsers to its riverside setting along the Sorgue canals. Gordes, one of France’s most beautiful villages, sits 40 minutes away by car.

Luxury bespoke hotel holidays to Le Galinier, Provence
The four-star Le Galinier sits at the very edge of Lourmarin, one of France’s most beautiful villages, set within the Luberon countryside. This 18th century bastide has been carefully restored to preserve its original stonework, shuttered windows, and the honey-coloured façade typical of Provençal houses. The property comprises the main bastide and several outbuildings, all set within landscaped gardens where ancient plane trees provide shade over gravel paths and lawns. Lavender and roses border the terraces, whilst the swimming pool offers views towards the Luberon hills. The 16 rooms, suites, and apartments, spread throughout the many buildings, each have an individual style, with a blend of vintage furnishings, Provençal fabrics, and contemporary comforts. Thick stone walls, terracotta floors, exposed beams, and whitewashed surfaces feature throughout. Breakfast is served on the terrace during warmer months, featuring local pastries, breads, cheeses, and seasonal fruits. Guests can dine at the hotel’s sister property, Le Moulin, where the Bacheto restaurant looks out over the village square and château. Bicycles are available for exploring the surrounding countryside, and the hotel can arrange wine tastings, guided walks, and visits to local markets and attractions. The Luberon’s network of hilltop villages, vineyards, ochre quarries, and Roman sites all lie within easy reach, making Le Galinier a practical and enchanting base for those wishing to explore this corner of Provence at a relaxed pace.
