Luxury rail holiday to the Provence countryside
This 7-night holiday by train involves a straightforward journey in one day from London to Provence with seven nights at the luxurious Terre Blanche Resort, 40 minutes’ drive from Cannes. The rail journey starts with a Eurostar train from London to Paris or Marseille depending on the day of the week and the time of the year. The travelling time from London to Terre Blanche Resort, door to door, is between 11 and 12 hours, with sensible train times. You then have seven nights at the elegant five-star Terre Blanche Hotel and Spa Resort in the Provençal countryside. The resort is spread over 300 hectares and offers 115 generously sized suites in cottage-villas. There are outstanding facilities and activities at the hotel including two of Europe’s most prestigious golf courses, a variety of restaurants, excellent pool and spa facilities as well as a children’s club. This makes the resort an excellent destination for both couples and families alike. The hotel lies in a secluded area of Provence just outside the quaint village of Fayence behind the Mediterranean coast, about 40 minutes' drive from Cannes. As well as Fayence itself with its steep and winding streets, other villages nearby include the mediaeval village of Seillans, home to many artists and Mons, the highest village in the region with views of Corsica. The hilltop village of Grasse is about 26 kilometres away and is known as the capital of the perfume industry. You can visit the Fragonard and Molinard factories. Lac de St-Cassien is also about 30 minutes’ drive from the hotel.
Highlights
Provence • Grasse • Fayence • Cannes
Day by day
You start your rail holiday to Provence by departing on a morning Eurostar from London St Pancras to Paris where you change stations for your direct train journey to Cannes. Depending on the season, you could take the 07.19 Eurostar direct to Marseille, reaching Cannes just after 18.00 hrs. If you take the train via Paris, you leave London just before 08.00 and reach Cannes just after 19.30 hrs. Enjoy the changing scenery of the French countryside as your high-speed Eurostar or TGV heads south through the pastures of Burgundy, the hillsides of the Rhone and into Provence. The final stretch of the journey runs along the Mediterranean coastline of the French Riviera offering lovely views. We include a private transfer for your 40-minute journey from the station in Cannes to Terre Blanche Resort. You spend seven nights here.
You have six full days at leisure at Terre Blanche Resort and Spa. The country resort set in over 300 hectares of Provencal countryside, bursting with trees such as cedars, conifers and cypresses in the Pays de Fayence. There is a wide range of facilities to suit both adults and children. Firstly, the resort offers a variety of restaurants. The gastronomic restaurant, Le Faventia, has one Michelin star and boasts glorious views over the villages of Callian and Montauroux. Mediterranean cuisine is served here, inspired by the region’s culinary heritage. Guests can also dine at Le Gaudina, a cosy dining terrace where creative food is accompanied by art and music, or at Les Caroubiers, overlooking the golf course. We highly recommend Terre Blanche Resort to avid golfers thanks to the two 18-hole golf courses at the resort. The courses sit at the very bottom of the resort, away from the cottages, and almost entirely out of view so as to not impose on the feel of the hotel. Take time to relax in the 3,200 square metre spa and fitness centre. There are 15 treatment rooms as well as an indoor pool, sauna and jacuzzi. There is a large outdoor infinity pool which sits in the centre of the resort, with an extensive pool deck and a whirlpool. Below the edge of the pool, partially hidden by verdant trees and plants, there is a children's pool. To one side of the resort, there is a children’s club offering a variety of games and excursions. Other activities include cookery courses, wine-tasting and cycling. It is possible to hire a bike and cycle to the village of Fayence which hosts a weekly market or visit a nearby vineyard for a tasting. Terre Blanche is situated close to the village of Grasse, the perfume capital. We can organise a visit to a local flower field where you meet with the grower and learn to create your own perfume. Further afield, enjoy a visit to the sophisticated resort of Cannes with its harbour, long sandy beach and old quarter.
Enjoy a final breakfast at your hotel before you check out and take your private transfer to the train station in Cannes. There is a departure from Cannes at about 10.23 hrs. With a change of train stations in Paris, you will reach London just after 19.30 hrs. Again, depending on the day of the week and the time of year, there may be a Eurostar service direct to London from Marseille.
Holiday price guide Prices from £2,030 per person based on two people sharing a deluxe suite and including standard class rail travel. Supplement for standard premier/first class about £200 per person.
