The proximity of the river should not be overlooked and there are river trips, with wining and dining on board, and the Musée Mer Marine. There are the vestiges of Gallo-Roman times in the Palais Gallien and many parks and gardens throughout the city. The Cité du Vin in Bordeaux is an innovative, immersive experience where wine comes to life within a stunning, modern building. Luxury bespoke hotel holidays to Bordeaux, France
The Hotel de Sèze is situated on the gracious, treelined promenade called the Allées de Tourny, which is also home to a traditional carousel, and just a few steps away from the magnificent Esplanade des Quinconces with its Monument aux Girondins, a 12-hectare square planted with trees planted in quincunx. The River Garonne is a short walk away and many of the historic monuments and sites of the city can be reached in about 10 to 15 minutes on foot, including the Cathedral and the Place de la Bourse. The hotel is named after Raymond de Sèze (1748-1828), the Comte de Sèze, who was born in nearby Saint-Emilion and who, as a gifted advocate, defended Louis XVI. The hotel was created in 1927 but its style has echoes of the 18th Century, enhanced by contemporary touches of elegance and flair. The 54 rooms and 3 suites are discreetly elegant and are decorated in one of eight different themes and colour combinations, but all reflect the flamboyant history of the city as well as providing a relaxing atmosphere for the contemporary traveller. The hotel’s restaurant, the Comptoir de Sèze, provides a bistronomic style of cuisine combining the classics of French cuisine and the products of the market, local and seasonal whenever possible. The restaurant offers a market menu at lunchtimes on Mondays to Fridays, it closed at Saturday lunchtime and on Monday evenings and on Sundays a brunch is offered from 11.45 to 2.30 and reservations are recommended. Access to the hotel’s spa is not included in the room rate but can be booked at a price of Euros 40 per room per stay. This gives access to the hammam, the sauna, the jacuzzi, a sensory shower, an ice fountain and a herbal tea room. Bathrobes, slippers and towels are provided. Access is however free when you book a 45-minute or more treatment, and children under 16 years of age are not permitted. The hotel has a gym which is open 24 hours a day and is complimentary. A unique feature of this city centre hotel is its private golf course (a compact two x 6-hole putting green in 4.5 hectares) situated on a former sloping vineyard on the right bank of the River Garonne. The course is about 25 minutes away by car and transfers can, of course, be arranged for you. Cosy public rooms at the hotel include the Salon des Illustres, a library full of beautiful and rare books on the history of Bordeaux. Enjoy a quiet moment on one of the quilted velvet sofas whilst admiring the portrait of Raymond de Sèze which has pride of place above the fireplace. The hotel bar offers a range of cocktails, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and a wide choice of rare spirits.
Room descriptions
Hotel de Sèze has 57 rooms and suites. All rooms and suites are soundproofed with air-conditioning, safe, mini-bar, flat screen TV and Wi-Fi. Triple rooms are possible in some deluxe rooms and suites.
