Luxury bespoke holidays and tours to Le Domaine de Verchant, Montpellier

To approach five-star Le Domaine de Verchant, you cruise under the leafy canopy of a tree-lined boulevard and watch as the sight opens up to reveal a refined country mansion. This Relais & Châteaux property is a welcome retreat just removed from the pace of Montpellier, languishing in the subdued countryside. The estate dates back to the 16th century, and the hotel's façade sits, elegant in its own simplicity, atop a sloping lawn with broad verandas perfect for surveying the views. Adjoining buildings host a more rustic façade, with rough-hewn stonework hinting at a former life as stables or outhouses. Recent renovations at Le Domaine de Verchant have enacted a transformative effect on the structure, a modern glass entryway the first telling glimpse of what's inside. Interiors are not what you might expect, filled with ultra-contemporary furnishings and a modern mix of monotone hues and vibrant colour infusions. The minimalism seen here is quite artistic, while original features such as exposed stonework, wooden beams and antique mosaics remain intact. There are 26 rooms, suites and apartments to choose from during your stay and each is individually decorated and featuring cutting-edge amenities and facilities. Their style is in keeping with the hotel's overall design, creating the perfect setting for romance. Within the grounds, a vast commune of vines contributes in the production of house red, white and rose wines. These Verchant wines form the backbone of the experience at Le Domaine de Verchant, where the restaurant's Mediterranean cuisine may be washed down with the local labels. In depth wine tasting events are also available. Other pastimes at Le Domaine de Verchant include swimming in either indoor or outdoor pools - the latter in the serene environment of the spa.

The journey and how you get there

For a holiday to the Domaine de Verchant, our clients fly to Toulouse and then usually have the use of a hire-car for the duration of the holiday, or they arrive in their own car on a self-drive holiday, often as part of a multi-centre touring holiday (we would include a Eurotunnel crossing or a ferry crossing, depending on the itinerary), or they arrive by train, having taken the Eurostar London to Paris or Lille, and then the TGV to Toulouse, Carcassonne or Perpignan. From the railway station, if you are visiting more than one hotel or want to explore the region, we recommend having a hire-car. We will arrange this for you.

About Languedoc-Roussillon

An Expressions tailor-made holiday to Languedoc-Roussillon is a chance to encounter this most southerly region of French Catalonia, nestling on the Spanish border. The region is one that continues to delight and charm, offering plenty to discover during your holiday. The coast of Languedoc-Roussillon has long flat sandy beaches with a full range of water sports and golf at St Cyprien. Meanwhile the hinterland is surprisingly green, composed of gently sloping vineyards, Cotes de Roussillon, Banyuls and Rivesaltes and a whole host of fruit trees including peaches, cherries, plums and oranges. Further inland in Languedoc-Roussillon the Pyrenees rise, remarkably green and covered with trees and shrubs. To the north is the mediaeval town of Carcassonne, which rises like a mirage between vineyards and hills. Languedoc Roussillon also offers the fascinating land of the Cathars. With so much to see in Languedoc-Roussillon, a self-drive touring holiday is an excellent choice, either driving all the way from the UK or flying to the south of France before collecting a hire car. Visit other regions including Tarn and Provence to the north or Bordeaux and the Basque country to the west. Discover the Catalonian and Basque cultures by travelling along the Spanish border, or explore the valleys, fortresses and mountains of southwestern France. A rail holiday offers the chance to view the beautiful French countryside during the journey south, travelling by train to Carcassonne before exploring Languedoc-Roussillon by car, or stopping off in Beaujolais en route to the region.

Highlights of Languedoc-Roussillon

Sample the earliest cherries in France and other seasonal fruit. Take a visit to see the local ceramics and paintings, travel on the narrow-gauge railway from Villefranche de Conflent to Font Romeu. There are Folklore and music festivals in August. Gastronomy Sample anchovies, macaroons, Rousquilles aniseed biscuits. Local wines include Banyuls and Rivesaltes wines and Cotes de Roussillon wine. This is one of the most highly-regarded new wine regions of France.
