Hôtel Balzac is set on Rue Balzac – a quiet side street just off the top of the Champs-Élysées – in a handsome early-20th-century hôtel particulier in classic Parisian neoclassical style. The street itself carries a distinguished history: it was here that the novelist Honoré de Balzac spent his final years, having acquired the property for his future wife in 1848. The hotel reopened in June 2024 following a complete reinvention by Paris-based Festen Architecture, whose design draws on the building's ornate façade as its starting point. The interiors move through warm tones of brown, cognac, and camel, with custom-designed furniture in burl wood, solid oak, velvet, moiré fabric, and marble mosaic – evoking the understated elegance of the 1930s and 1940s, with artistic lighting that shifts through the day. Across its 58 rooms and suites in eight categories, guests find high ceilings, neutral palettes, premium bedding, and considered design throughout; the two top-floor suites each have a private rooftop terrace with views of the Eiffel Tower and across the Paris skyline. Dining centres on the glass-roofed lobby lounge – serving breakfast, light lunches, and afternoon teas – and a deliberately low-lit bar with a speakeasy character, whose cocktail menu carries Balzacian wit alongside Petrossian caviar and a lobster roll with Espelette pepper. A private entrance from the lobby leads directly to Pierre Gagnaire's three-Michelin-starred restaurant, which shares the building. In the basement, Spa Ikoï – named from the Japanese for 'a place where one feels good' – takes a holistic approach, with shiatsu, body rituals on tatami mats, an indoor plunge pool, sauna, and a well-equipped fitness room.
