A 10 minute walk brings you to the Grand Palais – the magnificent Beaux-Arts glass-and-iron exhibition hall, fully reopened in 2025 following renovation and hosting major art fairs year-round – with the Petit Palais directly opposite. The Musée Jacquemart-André on Boulevard Haussmann, also around 10 minutes on foot, is a lavish 19th century private mansion housing an outstanding collection of European Old Masters and Italian Renaissance works. The Musée d'Orsay, approximately 20 minutes on foot or a short taxi ride, holds the world's greatest collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting; the Louvre is reachable in 15–20 minutes by taxi or direct on the Metro from George V. Further afield, the Palace of Versailles – a UNESCO World Heritage Site with 800 hectares of formal gardens – is around 20 minutes by car, and Château de Fontainebleau, a royal château set within a vast forest and far less visited than Versailles, is approximately an hour's drive southeast. Claude Monet's house and water garden at Giverny, the inspiration for his celebrated Water Lilies series, lies around an hour to the northwest by car and is open from April to November.
