Luxury bespoke holidays and tours to La Bastide de Moustiers, Provence

With a dramatic alpine backdrop rising behind, the five-star La Bastide de Moustiers occupies four acres of parkland bristling with fragrant lavender, ancient olive trees and towering cypresses. The building itself is the embodiment of Provencal authenticity, its traditional farmhouse structure guaranteeing rural simplicity. It is one of Alain Ducasse's country inns, which he stumbled upon on his travels in 1994 and made his home before opening its doors to others. It is apt then that the feeling of La Bastide de Moustiers is of an enchanting private home, which is emphasised by the effusive mood of the close-knit team. Where the hotel's exteriors are rugged and rustic, interiors are a breath of fresh air, particularly in the varied settings of the four dining rooms: Le Salon Cheminée, Le Salon des Faienciers, La Bibliothèque and La Salon des Amoureux. You choose your preferred dining venue, while Chef Christophe Martin chooses the daily menu based on what's fresh in the vegetable garden and on the local market stalls. For the simple pleasures of the restaurant at La Bastide de Moustiers, the restaurant has been awarded a prestigious one Michelin star rating. For more casual dining, seek the sun-streaked patio terrace, where tables are shaded by the leafy canopy of a grand, age-old tree. Also within the grounds, a smart swimming pool beckons on warm days. The 13 unique rooms and suites offer homely comfort at La Bastide de Moustiers, and each is personalised by an individual name. Exposed stone work, beams and floorboards complement the freshness of white-washed walls and antique furniture to create cosy, country-style interiors filled with fireside warmth. The most luxurious accommodation though belongs to the exclusive Bastion Suite, which is a self-contained Provencal villa with a bedroom and living room. With the beauty of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region on your doorstep, the La Bastide de Moustiers experience is one filled with the simple pleasures of rural life.

About Provence

An Expressions tailor-made holiday to Provence, the land which is the ancient province of the Romans, offers a rich tapestry of landscapes, culture and traditions. From the sunflower fields of Van Gogh`s Arles, to the sandy marshes of the Camargue, from the Cezanne like landscapes of Aix inland to the olive groves and lavender beds that surround the perched hill top villages, and finally to the dramatic coastline of the azure Mediterranean where the sandy beaches, craggy corniches and fishing villages have been transformed into a sophisticated holiday playground you experience a multitude of contrasting and complementary senses and images. The perfumes of lavender, thyme, rosemary, citrus, pine and olive mingle in the air and the light is bright and clear. Add to all these sensations a wonderful climate, good food and local wine and unlimited sporting and sightseeing activities and you can understand why Provence is not just an ideal holiday destination but a romantic way of life. Provence still has miles of open road across country, tiny, sleepy villages, dramatic hills and craggy peaks, beautiful, sense enriching panoramas and aromas all waiting for you to explore and enjoy.
