Luxury bespoke holidays and tours to Hotel le Saint Paul, St Paul de Vence

Nestled between the southern Alps and the Mediterranean, in the shade of the hinterland village ramparts of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, the Hotel Saint Paul is an intimate haven with a wealth of artistic history, not least owing to the original Chagall artworks adorning the walls. Discovered in the 1920s by Signac, Modigliani, Bonnard and Soutine, Saint-Paul-de-Vence became an artistic Mecca for contemporary artists of the time including Matisse, Picasso and Marc Chagall, who is buried in the village cemetery. Dating back to the 15th-century, the hotel building was used as middle-class residences, a hospital, church and meeting place for secret organisations before becoming a fully-fledged hotel in 1989. Today a member of the Relais & Châteaux group and part of the renowned Baglioni Hotels chain, the hotel offers character and timeless charm in abundance, not to mention breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and Riviera coastline from its mediaeval perch. Characterised by their traditional Provençal decoration in warm pastel hues, and complementing the hotel's ambience to perfection, the Saint Paul's 4 rooms and 12 suites are light, airy and distinctive, each lavishly and individually appointed with period furnishings, fine fabrics and luxury decorative finishes. The Michelin-starred chef, Laurent Paccini, serves delectable and contemporary, not to mention exotic and imaginative, Provençal cuisine inspired and shaped by the seasons. Meals are served in one of two romantic dining areas - one an atmospheric vaulted stone room, decorated with trompe l'oeil frescoes, the other boasting a 17th-century fountain from Arras. Alternatively you can eat on the flower-filled terrace draped in bougainvillea. There is also a small bar area situated in the lounge, where the open fire and comfy seating provide a cosy intimacy for pre- and post-dinner drinks. If you're looking to soak up the timeless atmosphere of this popular artist's haunt, then there is no better hotel than Le Saint Paul in which to truly experience Saint-Paul-de-Vence's charm.

The journey and how you get there

For a holiday to the Hotel le Saint Paul, our clients fly to Nice and then usually have the use of a hire-car for the duration of the holiday, or they arrive in their own car on a self-drive holiday, often as part of a multi-centre touring holiday (we would include a Eurotunnel crossing or a ferry crossing, depending on the itinerary), or they arrive by train, having taken the Eurostar London to Paris or Lille, and then the TGV to Nice. From the railway station, if you are visiting more than one hotel or want to explore the region, we recommend having a hire-car. If you are just staying at one hotel, you may not require a hire-car and in that case we recommend that you take a taxi from the airport or station, or ask us to book a private transfer for you.

Additional information

Children: Children are welcome at the hotel, and are best accommodated in a Village Junior Suite or Terrace Suite. Babysitting is available upon request.
