Combine a visit to Paris this winter and visit the Cezanne et nous exhibition held at the Grand Palais that celebrates the work of Paul Cezanne (1838-1906) and his artistic legacy. From Paul Gauguin to Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Joan Mitchell, Bridget Riley, and Peter Doig, nearly 180 artworks show how his work has been discovered, interpreted, and transformed, from the late 19th century to the present day. His work became a point of reference for the avant-garde movements of the 20th century, which questioned the relationship between painting and reality and found in the idea that “art is a harmony parallel to nature” an essential tool for reflection. Cezanne et nous is the first exhibition to tell the story of his fundamental influence and the story of the artists who claimed him. The exhibition invites you to view Cezanne through the successive perspectives he has inspired, culminating in our own contemporary gaze. With our three-night short break to Paris, Expressions includes the entrance ticket to the exhibition Cezanne et nous at the Grand Palais. The exhibition is on until 17 January 2027 from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 am to 7.30 pm with late night opening on Fridays until 10pm. It is closed on Mondays. You should allow about 1.5 hrs for the visit and we will book you tickets at a time of your choice. It is generally less busy in the morning or after 5pm. After the visit to the exhibition, you have the rest of the time at leisure to enjoy both familiar and less familiar sights and places of interest in the city. Choose a Eurostar time that suits you most. On arrival in Paris at the Gare du Nord, you are met by your private car and driver for the journey across Paris to your hotel.
You have two whole days in Paris. We will book the best time for you to visit the Cezanne exhibition. You should allow about 1.5 hrs for the visit. The exhibition is open from 10 am until 7.30 pm every day except Mondays. It is also closed on December 25th and has early closing at 6pm on 24 December and 31 December. There is a late-night opening on Fridays until 10pm. The Grand Palais illustrates five key insights into Cezanne and his work; Cezanne was an impressionist but his impressions were given a more lasting form so that he stands at the crossroads between 19th-century Impressionism and 20th-century avant-garde; the apple appears often in his paintings as a way of experimenting with form and colour; Cezanne was mocked and rejected for a long time during his lifetime because his style challenged the conventions of the time and it was only at the end of the 19th-century that his work was recognised; Cezanne was admired by other artists as early as the 1880s and again after World War II; Cezanne persists in being famous and admired today as his work retains a timeless inventiveness and is unique. During your time in Paris, feast on other art museums such as the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée de l’Orangerie. For modern art, there is, of course, the Centre Pompidou.
