Luxury two-centre holiday to Grenada and the Grenadines

This ten-night two-centre holiday is split between the charming and pretty island of Grenada, known as the Spice Island, as it is rich in nutmeg and other valuable spices. Beaches are excellent but there is also a wealth of cultural, historic and scenic activities to undertake. Rainforest hikes and sailing trips are all possible here too. Your second island is quite a contrast. Petit St Vincent is a private island of 115 acres in the Grenadines, not far from Union Island where the nearest airport is to be found. Neighbouring islands are Carriacou and Petite Martinique. With its lack of telephones, television and WiFi in the bedrooms, PSV is a peaceful and private island retreat. Visits can be arranged by sea to the nearby Tobago Cays and other islands. We include five nights on each island with an inter-island scheduled flight from Grenada to Union, and a private shared charter flight from Union to Barbados. Transfers by car and boat are included.

Highlights

Visit Duquesne Bay boulder carvings • Visit St George’s • Visit the spice plantations • Sail to the Tobago Cays • Visit local Carriacou • Have a drink at the bar on Happy Island

Luxury two-centre holiday to Grenada and the Grenadines

You fly from London to Grenada with British Airways. You are met at the airport and transferred by private car to your hotel, Spice Island Beach Resort, on magnificent Grand Anse beach.

You have four full days on the island of Grenada. Your hotel, Spice Island Beach Resort, is a 5-star luxury hotel that takes its name from Grenada’s history as a valued source of exotic spices. Sheltered under the branches of lemon, almond, and sea-grape trees, this hotel is just a stone’s throw from the Grand Anse Beach, the most beautiful beach on the island, and the Grenadian capital, St George’s. Spice Island Resort prides itself on being environmentally friendly and aims to blend into the spectacular surrounding landscape. Spend your days snorkelling, kayaking, scuba-diving on coral reefs, playing tennis and cycling, before taking lunch and cocktails at the Sea and Surf Terrace and Bar, and dinner in the evenings at Oliver’s Restaurant. On Fridays, live Steel Band entertainment brings the Caribbean heritage of this resort to life. Day trips can also be organised with the hotel into the rainforest, and to a nearby Saturday market. Complete your Grenadian experience with a few hours in Janissa’s Spa, designed by Kobi Karp, which harnesses the restorative properties of the local herbs and spices in the relaxation lounge and tropical gardens. To explore the wonders of the island that exist beyond your luxury resort, we would recommend beginning with a few sites of historical and cultural interest. The boulder carvings of Duquesne Bay offer a remarkable view into the lives of ancient Carib peoples, while the National Museum at St George’s and the Rome Museum at Walker offer structured and informative insights into the artefacts on display. St George’s is Grenada’s most beautiful settlement, with colourful houses that climb up the hillside. Next, get in touch with Caribbean nature, from rainforest hikes past waterfalls, to sailing trips in pristine protected bays. Dive down below reefs to uncover shipwrecks and the innovative underwater sculpture park at Moilinere Bay. For Grenada’s most peaceful beaches, stick to the South Coast of the island, though the north offers traditional tours of a nutmeg factory and rum distillery.

You fly today from Grenada to Union Island in the Grenadines, and then are transferred by boat to Petit St Vincent, known simply as PSV.

You have four full days on PSV. PSV is a private island of 115 acres of tropical vegetation, gently sloping hills and beaches as white as sugar. The accommodation is in cottages that trail the curvature of Telescope Hill and Atlantic Beach. You spend the nights here in a cottage with exposed stone walls, private deck, and wide ocean views. There are no television sets, telephones or WiFi. Activities on the island include a state-of-the-art dive centre, essential for an island surrounded by deep coral reefs and tropical fish. Deep sea fishing trips regularly catch species such as Mahi Mahi and the Great Barracuda; all fish caught will be expertly prepared by the chefs of Petit St Vincent’s two restaurants at your request. Other watersports include kayaking around the 2-mile circumference, snorkelling, kite-surfing, and sailing; all of which offer a new and exciting perspective on this surreal island. Boat trips across to Canouan Island can be arranged if you want to enjoy the 18-hole golf course. After a thrilling few days, relax in the Hillside Spa or Yoga Pavilion. The Spa offers products blended from Caribbean and Asian herbs, accompanied by the tranquil sounds of the birds and the sea, in open-air treatment rooms or on the relaxation deck. Daytime excursions can be arranged through the hotel. Travel out to Tobago Cays Marine Park and relax on one of the protected islands, or dive among the colourful fish. Explore traditional West Indian life on Union Island and have a drink in the bar at the top of Happy Island, an island formed entirely from Conch shells. Climb up to the stone Catholic Church atop the hill of Mayreau, or visit Carriacou, untouched by tourism, which still relies on ancient crafts such as boat-building.

Today you are transferred by boat to Union Island where you board the private shared charter flight to Barbados. At Barbados you take the British Airways scheduled flight to London Gatwick, arriving early the next morning.
