Grand Anse Beach lies around 25 minutes from the hotel, while Annandale Falls, a jungle waterfall tumbling into a natural pool, sits roughly 30 minutes into the island's lush interior. Grand Etang National Park and Crater Lake are about 55 minutes' drive north, and Concord Falls, a series of three waterfalls on the west coast, is around 40 to 45 minutes away, with the first fall accessible without hiking. Gouyave, famous for its Friday night Fish Fry street food festival, is 25 to 30 minutes north of St George's and home to a century-old nutmeg processing plant offering guided tours. Belmont Estate, an organic cocoa farm with a chocolate museum, is around 50 minutes away in the rainforest.

Purchased in 1989 by British businessman Leo Garbutt and his Grenadian wife Lilian, after a delayed flight left Leo stranded and taking tea at the property, the Calabash grew from a three-star hotel into a Relais & Chateaux member, and is now run by their three daughters as second-generation owners. The 30 suites are arranged in two-storey, colonial-style detached buildings set within the gardens, each with a private balcony or terrace overlooking the Caribbean Sea or the grounds, and interiors combine local Caribbean stone, wood and marble with light, neutral tones for a contemporary coastal feel. Rhodes Restaurant, the first overseas venture of the late British chef Gary Rhodes and now overseen by executive chef James Castillo, serves Grenadian produce with precision, while Nori serves Japanese cuisine beside the pool, and the Beach Club offers lunch and afternoon tapas using local seafood, with Tuesday grill nights accompanied by steel pan and Thursday bistro evenings with live jazz. The Spa at Calabash uses Grenadian ingredients such as cocoa, lemongrass, and lavender alongside Elemis products, and weekly yoga and pilates classes are held in a garden pavilion. A 24-hour fitness suite, tennis courts, and a private beach stocked with kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkelling gear complete the offering, alongside an on-site dive centre for exploring Grenada's reefs.

The journey and how you get there
For a holiday to the Calabash, you can fly directly into Maurice Bishop International Airport, with a transfer taking around five minutes to reach the hotel. It is also possible to combine the stay with island touring, using the airport's proximity to St George's and the south coast. A car is useful for exploring the capital, Grand Anse Beach, and the island's waterfalls independently.

About Grenada

Highlights of Grenada
The carnival is in August. Food is excellent: specialities include lambi (conch), callaloo soup made of dasheen leaves, goat and seafood, nutmeg features on top of rum punches and in breakfast jelly. Rum and Carib beer are the local drinks. Perfumes and pot pourris made from the island`s spices as well as the spices themselves, straw, palm and wood craft ware all make excellent souvenirs. Recommended excursions include St George`s, Gouvaye, Concord Falls, Dougaldston Estate, Grand Etang forest centre, Grenville, Morne Fendue plantation house and La Sagesse Protected Seascape of beaches, mangrove, salt pond and coral reef.
Travel around Grenada
The hotels we feature are a short distance by taxi from the airport. However, a hire-car is very useful for visiting the island, getting into St George’s, exploring the coast for harbours and beaches. Cars can be booked through the hotels and delivered to your hotel.
