Out and about nearby
Hotel Majestic Toscanelli is located in a quiet, cobbled street in the heart of Padua in the area that was the historic ghetto. Just a couple of minutes' walk is the focal point of the city with the Piazza della Frutta and Piazza dell'Erbe, with their market stalls and the grand Palazzo della Ragione. The primary attraction in Padua is the Cappella degli Scrovegni which houses Giotto's frescoes. Pre-booking is a must. Tickets can be bought for the chapel and the Musei Civici Eremitani which has a collection of Roman artefacts and paintings. Next to it is the Chiesa degli Eremitani with Mantegna frescoes. There are also the remains of a Roman amphitheatre in this area. The Piazza dei Signori has the Chiesa di San Clementi at one end and the Torre dell'Orologio at the other and is flanked by the Loggia del Consiglio. The Palazzo della Regione must be visited for the allogorical frescoes on the walls of the upper, great hall which used to be used for the administration of justice. There is a wooden model from 1466 of Donatello's Gattamelata statue. The food stalls are located on the ground floor and are well-worth a stroll. Another must in Padua is the San Antonio area with the church and museum. Outside San Antonio stands the statue of Gattamelata (under renovation in 2026). Nearby are the famous 16th century botanic gardens created by the university, the second oldest in Italy, after Bologna. The old university can be visited and of special note is the original anatomy theatre. Padua was renowned for medical studies from early on. A short walk from the botanic gardens, and at the end of what is the Via Roma, with its arcaded shops, is the spacious Prato delle Valle. This is a huge elliptical square, bordered by a canal with a green island in the centre. The canal is lined with 78 statues, made from Vicenza stone between 1775 and 1883. One of the attractive houses that surround the Prato is the Loggia Amulea, in Venetian style and guarded by statues of Giotto and Dante. One of the oldest cafes in Italy is the Cafe Pedrocchi, housed in a neo-classical building.

Luxury bespoke holidays and tours to Hotel Majestic Toscanelli, Padua
The Hotel Majestic Toscanelli is a charming 4-star, traditional hotel, run by the Morosi family for over half a century. It is tucked away on a cobbled street in a corner of the ancient ghetto of Padua, with its narrow, arcaded streets and alleys, yet just two minutes’ walk from the bustling heart of the city at the Piazza delle Erbe. The building dates back to the 1500s and its architecture is characteristic with its red roof tiling, its rich yellow exterior and green, wooden shutters. Some rooms have iron Juliet balconies. Outside the front entrance is a small seating area, framed by trees and shrubs. An awning provides shade to the entrance which leads into a cosy and atmospheric reception area, cooled by marble floors, and leading to a quiet bar where you can also be served from the menu of the restaurant La Sciabola, situated next door. The restaurant is highly recommended for its authentic, regional menu. The Majestic Toscanelli is a boutique hotel with just 34 rooms including some junior suites and suites. A lift serves the floors. Each room is slightly different but furnished authentically, some in Venetian Baroque style, and some in 19th century English-influenced style. The rooms have air-conditioning and street noise is restricted when the windows are closed. Rooms either overlook the front and side of the hotel or a rear courtyard. A buffet breakfast is offered in the mezzanine breakfast room above reception. Access to the hotel by car if you are driving yourself may be daunting as you have to navigate the one-way system, narrow streets and pedestrians. It is in a limited traffic zone but accessible for you as a guest by registering the number plate when you check-in. Valet parking has to be arranged. The Hotel Majestic Toscanelli is charming, traditional, in a superb location for visiting the city, and a fine example of authenticity thoroughly in keeping with the marvellous city of Padua.
