Originally constructed in 1565, architect Michele De Lucchi led the sensitive restoration, whilst Michele Bönan designed interiors that honour the building’s heritage whilst embracing contemporary comfort. The hotel’s 73 rooms and suites feature Italian bespoke furniture, floor-to-ceiling Carrara marble bathrooms, and Frette linens. 27 rooms on the first floor open onto serene loggias overlooking either the secret garden or private terraces, creating peaceful retreats above the fashion district’s elegant streets. The journey and how you get there
For a holiday to Hotel Portrait Milano, you can fly into Milan Malpensa Airport and collect a hire car for the 50 minute drive to the city centre, or take the Malpensa Express train to Milano Cadorna. From Milano Centrale station, the hotel is a 15 minute metro journey on Line 3 to Montenapoleone, or a brief taxi ride. We can arrange private transfers from the airport or station directly to the hotel.

About Milan

Festivals in Milan
The festival of Sant’Ambrogio, the city’s patron saint is on 7 December and there are processions, fairs and festivities throughout the capital. The Festa Del Naviglio is held in the first ten days of June and sees numerous processions and street performances. The Opera season at La Scala runs historically from the festival of Sant’Ambrogio in December through to July, but of course there are concerts and performances on all the time, apart from in August, when it is generally closed.
Gastronomy in Milans
Milan lends its name to many regional specialities such as Risotto alla Milanese, Cotolleta alla Milanese, Minestrone alla Milanese, but is also home to the traditional Panettone Christmas cake. The cuisine of Lombardy tends to be hearty and meat based, such as Ossobuco (oxtail), but there are excellent vegetable and sea food ‘fritto misto’ dishes too. Wines of the region are generally from the Franciacorta wine growing region near Lake Iseo and the area is principally known for its sparkling wines.
