Garden tours of the Amalfi Coast and Capri
If you are contemplating a garden tour of the Amalfi coast, the clear favourite places to stay in this glorious area so richly blessed with beautiful gardens must be a combination of Ravello, perched high on the cliffs above Amalfi, and the island of Capri.
Start your garden tour of the Amalfi coast with a stay in the chic Hotel Palazzo Sasso in Ravello. From here you can walk to the nearby villas of Cimbrone and Rufolo, both famous for their gardens and the magnificent views they afford overlooking the sea. From Ravello you can also take a day to visit Pompeii where gardens have been excavated with the help of the frescoes discovered there. Plants that would have grown during Roman times have been planted here again and include ivy, box, laurel, myrtle, acanthus and rosemary.
For the second part of your garden tour of the Amalfi coast, transfer to the magical island of Capri and stay at the Hotel Capri Palace from where you can explore the island at your leisure, including a visit to the Villa San Michele and the Axel Munthe Garden. Your garden tour of Capri wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the natural beauty of the Gardens of Augustus and the magnificent ancient remains of the Villa Jovis of Emperor Tiberius, which clings to the rockface high above the Mediterranean. Both offer spectacular views over the sea and are renowned for their tranquillity and beauty.
