Our opinion
Grecotel Cape Sounio is a sophisticated hotel in a natural landscape haunted by tales of the ancient Greek gods.
Hotel description
Grecotel Cape Sounio echoes the Attica landscape surroundings, haunted by tales of the ancient Greek Gods and is resided over by the Temple of Poseidon, clearly visible from the resort. An amphitheatre of bungalows and villas encircle the main swimming pool. Terracotta coloured outside walls blend with the natural landscape whilst inside each bungalow and villa elegance glides across the fabrics and furnishings fusing with the weathered bronze doors and tables to add a hint of the exotic. The family bungalows consist of a master bedroom with dining alcove and spacious living area which can easily be converted to sleep two children. The Grecotel Cape Sounio features an outdoor seawater pool and an indoor heated pool as well as a separate children’s pool. The sandy beach, set on the peninsula offers safe swimming close to land and glorious snorkelling amongst the coral for those who wish to venture further out. Dining is as serious an issue as it was in the days of the ancient Greeks. ‘So Oriental’, the Asian restaurant contrasts with ‘Cavo Kolones’ which serves dishes prepared from local produce. And the main restaurant, ‘Cape Sounio restaurant’ is open for breakfast and dinner, whilst the pool bar offers daytime snacks. The Elixir Spa is something of a phenomenon. Inspired by the early James Bond film ‘Dr No’ the octagon shaped spa has a glass exterior creating the illusion of being outdoors. Exclusive treatments can be experienced including the Poseidon Elixir which pays homage to the sea god. Family activities are a major feature at the Grecotel Cape Sounio. Tennis and golf are on offer as well as scuba diving and the innovative Amazing Environmental programme, which aims to educate children through play to become ‘ambassadors of the environment’. Most of these programmes involve underwater exploration; however some also include land activities. Children aged 12 and under receive one Amazing Environmental Programme per day. For those less adventurous children and adults the Grecoland mini club is open for children aged 3 to 12 years old and is complimentary.
