Our opinion
Thatched cottages face the sea from hillside positions surrounded by coconut groves at The Surin, Phuket.
Hotel description
Lapped by the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea, The Surin (formerly the Chedi) is set alongside pristine Pansea Beach in a peaceful and secluded location. The resort’s magnificent architecture draws influence from traditional Thai style, complemented by soaring wooden columns that create an impression of grandeur. Sloping down towards the beach, the resort’s beautiful grounds are scattered with coconut groves and palm trees. Amongst this is the dramatic black swimming pool, surrounded by sunbeds and umbrellas, with the sound of the ocean in the distance. Guests can enjoy the superb natural setting of the resort through snorkelling and diving trips, or with a romantic sunset cruise, amongst many other facilities. For those seeking a little tranquillity and rejuvenation, the spa has two outdoor and two indoor treatment rooms, providing the ideal space for some much-needed pampering. The resort’s three restaurants include the Lomtalay Thai Restaurant, which was designed by the American architect Ed Tuttle and blends traditional Thai design with a simple gracefulness, offering breathtaking panoramas of the Andaman Sea. Linked together by walkways, the thatched cottages face the sea from hillside positions. Reflecting rustic style, with woven palm front panels and hand-crafted teak floors, they are luxurious and comfortable. Guests can enjoy the superb views from their private veranda and sundeck or over a drink at the sunset bar. This is a well-designed hotel that offers stylish surroundings in which to relax.
