Approached along a dramatic coastal road that has craggy cliffs on one side and the dazzling Mediterranean on the other, Il Pellicano is nestled between olive and pine trees on its own vast hilly grounds. Once a private villa, this is now a secluded and sophisticated retreat, composed of a number of terracotta-coloured houses that are built in the Tuscan style. The hotel has been elegantly furnished throughout, with plush sofas and armchairs, black and white photographs, and small tables with handcrafted chessboards creating a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Stairs and a lift lead down to the private manmade beach, where guests can relax in front of the sparkling sea. Aperitifs are served on the terrace before dinner, where guests can enjoy the views down through the gardens and the tall pine trees to the swimming pool and the sea beyond. The 2 Michelin star restaurant offers an excellent selection of dishes that are inspired by the region, which can be enjoyed al fresco in warm weather. Spread throughout the grounds, the guestrooms have been comfortably furnished in an elegant and classic Mediterranean style to the high standards that you would expect from this 5 star Relais & Chateaux hotel. This is a hotel in a truly privileged natural location that is superbly comfortable, intensely relaxing and one of our personal all-time favourites.
