Scuba diving

Scuba diving in the Indian Ocean
One of the great attractions of the Indian Ocean is its extensive range of diving. These islands are renowned for offering some of the most rewarding dive sites in the world, where you can learn the basics of diving in clear, warm waters to undertaking more challenging dives where you are confronted by an array of colourful coral, fish and turtles.
Scuba diving in the Maldives
Diving is a prime attraction of the Maldives and its dive sites are renowned. Partly because of the way its atolls were formed, there are four different types of dive sites in the Maldives: reef dives, kandus, thillas and wrecks. These sites offer a variety of dive experiences and enable you to encounter an array of colourful coral, small reef fish and larger open-sea fish such as manta rays and whale sharks. The fish are in all the hues of the rainbow, from angelfish to butterflyfish, from parrotfish to snapper. Many of the areas are marine reserves established to protect the fragile structures and eco-system of the reefs. All the resorts we feature offer diving and have their own dive centres offering a range of courses.
Scuba diving in the Seychelles
Diving in the Seychelles is probably second only to the Maldives. With over 900 species of fish, 100 types of shells and 50 varieties of coral, the Seychelles offer a wonderfully colourful underwater world. There is great diving around Mahé, from as little as ten minutes by boat with notable sites such as Coral Gardens, Vista do Mar Granite Massif (particularly brilliant for photographers), Whale Rock and I’Ilot. Other long-range dive sites for experienced divers include the Ennerdale Wreck and Shark Bank, noted for its immense stingrays.
Scuba diving in Mauritius
The main place for diving is on the west coast near Flic en Flac, where one of the main attractions is a wall dive known as the Cathedral. Here you can dive to 30 metres, where there is an entrance to a large cave that has a chimney which rises vertically to the reef. Other dive sites include Roche Zozo, which is off the south-east coast (but only accessible during the summer by boat) and Whale Rock, which can be treated from Grand Baie. Coral Gardens is situated within a short boat ride from Grand Baie and boasts an array of coral and fish including octopus, puffer fish and lion fish. There is a submerged crater near Ile Ronde in the north of the island which is also a popular dive site. The best months are from October to May, when the water is usually at its calmest and clearest.
Scuba diving in the Caribbean
The abundance of coral reef in the warm waters around the islands and the marine life these attract make the Caribbean an ideal destination for experienced scuba divers and beginners alike. The region’s excellent dive sites are blissfully un-crowded and offer the opportunity for exclusive diving in dazzling lagoons and warm tropical waters, where spectacular corals and underwater caves can be explored to your heart’s content. The islands of Fiji, Tahiti and French Polynesia and Bora Bora, for example, all offer excellent snorkelling and diving and combined with stays in luxurious hotels offering every comfort, leisure facility and fine dining, you can be sure of enjoying a wonderful scuba diving holiday in the South Pacific.

The Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia offers one of the world’s best scuba diving experiences.
