The verdant volcanic peaks of Mount Otemanu rise dramatically behind Hotel Bora Bora, situated at Point Raititi on the edge of a turquoise lagoon. Spread through lush tropical foliage, the resort's low thatched-roof wooden buildings afford superb panoramas across the lagoon to the ocean. Sophisticated wooden furniture is used throughout the resort, complementing its beautiful natural location. Linked to the public areas by walkways, the guest rooms are in Polynesian style bungalows and fares. Varying in location, they are furnished with oak floors, red-cedar walls, and Polynesian artefacts such as canoe paddles, to recreate the eclectic style of an old trader's house. The tropical gardens lead down to the resort's three white-sand beaches, which face onto the barrier reef. The Hotel Bora Bora is secluded but offers a comprehensive range of facilities, including saltwater fly-fishing, tennis, and massages either in the privacy of the guest bungalows or in the massage room. Guests can enjoy some of Bora Bora's best snorkelling just off the resort's beaches, or they can further explore the underwater world with an aqua safari. Island and sea excursions can be arranged in the Raititi Lounge, such as a tour of the lagoon on a motorised outrigger canoe led by a Tahitian guide, or to Vaitape Village. Meals are served overlooking the water in the Matira Terrace Restaurant, where local musicians play each night, and lunch and refreshments are also available at the beach bar.
