Travel by Train to Piemonte and the Barolo vineyards
Experience the romance of rail as you travel through Europe by train to Piemonte. This is a region of alpine peaks in the north, flat river valleys further south, rolling vineyards with attractive villages, forested hills dotted with mediaeval castles and the city of Turin, known throughout the world as a great industrial centre but in fact, outstandingly rich in architectural gems. Piemonte as home to the magnificent Barolo vineyards naturally beckons lovers of wine and food, art and architecture and dramatic, natural but also gloriously cultivated landscapes.
Our suggested holiday
Travel by daytime train to Turin return and base yourself at the Hotel Villa Beccaris in the hilltop village of Monforte d’Alba.
Villa Beccaris is a gracious 18th century mansion in the gentle and unspoilt countryside of Piemonte. One side of the hotel faces the historic hilltop village of Monforte d'Alba and on the other side is 2500 square metres of tranquil parkland, whose marked paths make it ideal for taking a stroll and admiring the uninterrupted beauty of the countryside. Beyond the park are the vineyards which provide the region's distinctive wine. The Hotel Villa Beccaris does not have a restaurant, but this is not a disadvantage since the immediate area boasts some of the best restaurants in Piemonte, where white truffles are a speciality. Villa Beccaris also has its own wine cellar, Enoteca Infernot, where guests can sample and purchase the local wines.
