Travel by Train to Lake Garda
Experience the romance of rail as you travel through Europe by train to Lake Garda in Italy. Lake Garda is the largest of Italy’s lakes and offers a variety of attractions all year round. On the lower slopes of the hills are a profusion of lemons and olives, chestnuts and palms, magnolias and camellias. Pretty villages hug the sheltered bays and fishing boats still moor next to sailing boats.
Monte Baldo, above the lake, can be reached by cable car and affords spectacular views. At Gargnano on Lake Garda you can see the stone pavilions where lemons were traditionally cultivated. The two great cultural cities of Milan and Verona are within easy reach.
We found the Hotel Villa del Sogno captivating from the moment we arrived and our clients have enjoyed it ever since. Perched above the lake in its own parkland of classic Italian vegetation of cypress, olive trees, palms and pines, and reached by a long winding drive, the Villa del Sogno offers accommodation of good quality in extremely attractive surroundings. Fasano can be reached on foot from the Villa del Sogno but as the road winds upwards for several hundred metres, it is not a walk that we would recommend for everyone.
The Bellevue San Lorenzo, a villa dating back to the end of the 19th century, is located above the lakeside road against a backdrop of green rolling hills. Malcesine, with its colourful harbour and magnificent 13th century castle, is about half a mile away and can be reached via some steps from the Hotel Bellevue San Lorenzo's gardens. Picturesque Malcesine lies on the eastern shores of Lake Garda at the foot of Monte Baldo, the highest mountain in the area. The simply furnished bedrooms of the Bellevue San Lorenzo are situated in several buildings in the hotel's pretty gardens. The rooms we offer have lake view and you can upgrade to a terrace or balcony too.
The train journey
You can leave London in the afternoon in order to take the overnight sleeper service from Paris Gare de Lyon to Brescia, arriving at 06.43 or to Verona arriving at 07.25 the next morning. If that is a bit too early an arrival for you, then another option is to take the daytime service on either at 14.41 from Paris, arriving in Milan at 21.45 or at 12.45 on Saturdays and Sundays, arriving in Milan at 19.47. We would then arrange for you to have a transfer from the station to your hotel.
The return sleeper leaves Brescia at 22.06 and arrives in Paris Gare de Lyon at 09.29. You can then be on a Eurostar from the Gare du Nord at any time from about 11 am onwards. If you would like to experience the daytime service then a train leaves Milan at 11.10 Mondays to Fridays and arrives in Paris at the Gare de Lyon at 18.19 (an hour earlier on Saturdays and Sundays). You can then take a Eurostar at about 8pm back to London.
