Olive oil tasting holidays in Italy
Olive oils contain a wide variation of flavours, colours and tastes. From spicy and peppery to fruity and nutty, olive oil tasting is as unique and diverse as the soil where the olives themselves grow.
The main centres for olive oil production in Italy are Tuscany, Umbria, Puglia and Sicily, although other areas produce it too. We have suggested charming hotels in two of these olive oil producing areas.
Tasting olive oil in Tuscany
You can enjoy a superb olive oil tasting experience in Tuscany, staying at the charming Hotel Villa Campestri, which produces its own olive oil from the olive groves surrounding the villa. Our recommended programme includes a four course dinner of the special olive oil menu at the L’Olivaia restaurant; a cookery course with the chef Roberto Zanieri who prepares typical Tuscan dishes using extra-virgin olive oil from the Campestri estate; and an olive-oil tasting in the Oleoteca of Villa Campestri with the renowned olive oil specialist and estate owner, Paolo Pasquali.
Prices for a three night break at the Hotel Villa Campestri include the above programme and dinner on the two other nights start at £820 per person based on two people participating.
Tasting olive oil in Sicily
Tasting olive oil in Sicily merits a visit to the Titone olive oil farm - one of the most famous olive oil houses in the area, for a tasting session that will introduce your tastebuds to the delights of olive oil forever. Staying at the resplendent Kempinski Hotel Giardino di Costanza, you will also have the opportunity to have a wine tasting and a stop in Marsala at the Florio wine cellar.
Prices for a five night holiday at the Kempinski Hotel Giardino di Costanza include a transfer to the Titone olive oil farm and a stop at the Florio wine cellar start from the above programme and dinner on the two other nights start from £1230 per person based on two people participating.
