Hotel description
Offering elegance reminiscent of the early 20th Century, and built along the lines of an Edwardian paddle steamer, the Oberoi Philae is a sophisticated and elegant way to travel the Nile. It was awarded third best small cruise ship in the world in 2009 by Condé Nast Traveler. It has also received a Green Globe award from the Egyptian Ministry of the Environment. Whilst the boat is large it is by no means unsightly, its period features no doubt adding to its grace. Inside, the Edwardian impression is continued, with wooden staircases, potted plants and parquet floors used to purposefully create the feel of an English country house from the period. The tiled swimming pool on the top deck is flanked by cheerful striped sun loungers that are shaded by teak parasols, providing a wonderful place to relax and watch the scenery pass by. Fine dining is presented in the wood panelled dining room, where both Continental and Egyptian dishes are served on fine china. The cabins are decorated in keeping with the rest of the boat, each with a private balcony that is ideal for a little seclusion when admiring the beautiful vistas. The cruise can be taken for either four or six days. Embarkation is available at Aswan and Luxor, with stops at a number of ancient sites. Perfect for couples.
