In the heart of the desert yet within easy reach of Dubai, Jumeirah Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa offers a memorable desert experience. Set within a traditional fort, each of the 115 guestrooms reflects a rustic Arabic style. All of the rooms except the deluxe rooms benefit from a private balcony, terrace or patio, which provide the ideal space to appreciate the desert views. The swimming pool has a dramatic setting amongst palm trees and evocative artefacts, and provides wonderful desert panoramas. Children aged between two and twelve can join the excellent programme of activities on offer at Sinbad’s Kids’ Club, which range from arts and crafts to nature trails and a sand play area, and there is also a shaded children’s swimming pool. Adults can retreat to the calm of the spa, where there are five treatment rooms, one of which is set outside. The superb range of treatments on offer includes the exquisite Desert Spa Indulgence, ideal for complete pampering. The resort is able to arrange a number of desert activities. One of the best ways to see the desert is on horseback or in the traditional way by camel, and guests can also watch the traditional Bedouin activity of falconry take place daily. The resort’s two restaurants cater for a wide range of tastes, but the highlight is no doubt Al Hadheerah Desert Restaurant. With its souk-like ambience, this is the first traditional open-air Arabic desert restaurant in the region, and guests can enjoy live entertainment such as belly dancing while they dine. International cuisine is served in Al Forsan restaurant and afternoon tea in the Ya Hala Lounge. A most impressive desert retreat.
