Occupying a legendary site by a desert oasis, Emirates Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa is less than an hour’s drive by four-wheel vehicle from Dubai airport. This is a luxury sanctuary that has been designed to reflect a traditional Bedouin encampment amidst its own 225-square kilometre reserve. The leisurely pace envelops you on arrival, when you are welcomed in the tribal tradition with dates, Arabic coffee and blended fruit juices. The public spaces have been exquisitely furnished with antiques, which add to the authentic flavour and provide peaceful spaces in which to relax. Days can be spent being pampered in the spa, which offers a range of rejuvenating massages and body treatments, or exploring the reserve with a field guide. Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine can be enjoyed in the elegant restaurant with its palm-frond ceiling, or out on the canopied terrace under the thousands of stars that bejewel a desert night. The excellent personal service seen throughout the resort extends to dining, and guests can enjoy breakfast in-suite and picnic lunches for excursions. With cream coloured stone walls and tented roofs, the suites reflect the traditional Bedouin style and are well spaced for maximum privacy. Each has its own deck and temperature controlled pool, and the glorious furnishings reflect the colours and textures of local traditions.
