Our opinion
The Arabella Hotel Waldhuus is a veritable gem hidden amongst spectacular Swiss landscape in Davos.
Hotel description
On the outskirts of Davos, the four star Arabella Hotel Waldhuus is just a stone’s throw away from Davos Lake and its surrounding plains, forests, and walkways. Tucked away behind clusters of evergreen trees, and with the forested mountain slopes rising immediately behind it, the Arabella Hotel Waldhuus is an attractive, secluded chalet. A cobbled terrace of wooden tables and chairs is overlooked by the part-white-washed walls and exposed beams of the main hotel building. The treated wood has a very warm hue, which is particularly charming in the frames of the large windows on the ground floor. The bedrooms, on the first to fourth floors, have balconies with carved bannisters that afford guests magnificent views across the trees, mountains, and Davos itself. Inside, the hotel possesses all the warmth and character expected of its chalet exterior, with wooden panelled walls and ceilings, and quirky, rustic furniture. The hotel restaurant serves traditional Alpine dishes with a gourmet twist, in a dining room lit by small iron lanterns, with thick, light curtains around the windows, and unique artworks on the walls. This is the perfect place to taste some of the renowned Alpine cheeses, cured meats, and eggs, particularly at the incredibly varied breakfast service. Tradition merges with striking modernism in the Arabella Hotel Waldhuus Spa. The swimming pool seems to bleed into the fluid shape of the room, lit by an intriguing, blue-glass ceiling, and the treatment rooms have plush loungers and atmospheric lighting. The guestrooms return to chic authenticity with rich, soft carpets, cushions, and armchairs that offset the neutral colour palette. Wide windows let in plenty of light and reveal more stunning views to compliment the abundance of wood in the rooms. Higher room categories have vaulted ceilings that seem to enhance the already-copious space. The Arabella Hotel Waldhuus is a charming chalet hotel, with all the character and privacy of a boutique property, conveniently located in the village of Davos.

Out and aboutnearby/local interest
Davos is known best for being a winter and summer sports destination, offering over 700km of hiking, walking, and cycling trails for sportsmen of all abilities. Cable cars take visitors up to the Jakobshorn, Parsenn, Weissflujoch, and Rinerhorn, which prove excellent starting points. Horse-drawn carriages are available to take you through the romantic side valleys of Sertig, Dischma, and Fluela. The most famous cultural site is the Conference Centre, where the World Economic Forum is held every year, followed closely by the headquarters of the Davos Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research. For swimming and water sports, head to Lake Davos and the Lake Davos Sailing and Surfing Centre. Thrill-seekers will enjoy the paragliding and hang-gliding opportunities. Other unique opportunities include the mining museum in the stunning Zugenschlucht gorge, the Monstein Brewery, which is the highest in Europe, and, of course, the very chic village centre, populated as it is by boutique shops, cafes, and restaurants.
Children
Extra beds are available in some room types. The Globi Kids Club has a playroom, nannies, a large garden, and an 18-hole mini golf course.
