A wonderful hotel, perfect for some serious relaxation on the beautiful island of Vulcano.
Hotel description
With spectacular views out to sea and across the neighbouring Aeolian Islands of Alicudi, Filicudi, Salina, Lipari, Stromboli and Panarea, the Therasia Resort has possibly one of the most spectacular positions of any hotel we have seen. Vulcano is the southern most island of the Aeolian archipelago, separated from Lipari by a tiny strait, and is just a 45 minute hydrofoil ride from the port of Milazzo in Sicily.
The hotel has been recently renovated and the owners have made good use of the local volcanic stone from Etna, brightly coloured terracotta tiles from Sicily in the bathrooms and local whitewashed walls to reflect the sun’s rays. The 97 rooms and suites are furnished in a simple, but comfortable style and are decorated in cool cream and pastel shades. The bathrooms are decorated in traditional terracotta tiles in different shades and colours.
The interior public spaces of the hotel are airy and light with comfortable sofas and chairs in the open-plan lounges and there is a magnificent roof top bar with views out over the sea, the perfect place for a relaxing aperitif or night cap.
The hotel has a private bathing platform and access to the sea, with sun loungers and umbrellas. However, the infinity pool is equally tempting with views out over the striking Faraglioni Rocks and the surrounding sea.
The hotel has two restaurants offering a choice between fine dining, L’Arcipelago, and the less formal Il Cappero restaurant, both serving excellent Sicilian dishes, using local ingredients.
This is a truly remarkable hotel in terms of position and due to the volcanic nature of the island, there are numerous walks available, even up the crater of the volcano itself. However, the sea is always the main attraction and numerous water sports are available nearby from sailing to scuba diving.
