Our opinion
The Hotel d'Inghilterra is a charming hotel, of enormous elegance, quality and character in one of the best locations in Rome.
Hotel description
The Hotel d’Inghilterra enjoys a superlative position in the pedestrianised heart of the old town of Rome a couple of hundred yards from the famous Spanish Steps. The street it occupies lies between the Via Condotti and the Via Borgognona, two of the most famous shopping streets in the world and certainly two that must contain the highest concentration of designer clothes, shoes, bags and other accessories (Valentino, Gucci, Fendi etc., etc.). The whole quarter is a sheer delight in its own right, with numerous restaurants and cafes as well, although most of the rest of the famous monuments of Rome are also within walking distance from the d’Inghilterra, including the Roman Forum and Colosseum, Piazza Navona and St Peter’s Square. The Hotel d’Inghilterra occupies an historic palace and today is a 5-star hotel with 89 rooms. The hotel has a tremendous Roman feel to it, with its bar and luncheon room full with local business people during the week. The Hotel d’Inghilterra prides itself on being comfortable and discreet in an unpretentious way; it has very much the comfort and style of its sister hotel, the Helvetia and Bristol in Florence, and we have been extremely impressed with the atmosphere in the public rooms, the quality of the service and the high levels of comfort and decoration in the bedrooms. The rooms are on a total of six floors reached by lift, and are all air-conditioned. The public areas of lounges, comfortable panelled bar and luncheon/tea room ooze charm and cosiness with their decoration, art (there is for example an original collection of 16th Century Neapolitan gouaches in one of the lounges) and exquisite displays of fresh flowers. There is also a restaurant. One note: due to the location of the Hotel d’Inghilterra it is not advisable to drive to the hotel; we recommend that you allow for either picking up your hire car after your stay in Rome or dropping it off beforehand.
