Our opinion
In the evening at The Price Maurice, the subtle yet dramatic lighting creates a quintessentially romantic but understated ambience.
Hotel description
Nestled amongst 60 acres of unspoiled private land that rushes towards the sea, the Constance Le Prince Maurice has a serene yet welcoming ambience. Built to blend seamlessly into the natural environment, the resort buildings are made from stone and wood and have thatched roofs, creating a rustic idyll. Abundant sofas and chairs create intimate areas within the public spaces in which to relax. One of the delights of a stay here is undoubtedly the courtesy and helpfulness of the staff, who dress in a flowing Indian style in colours that reflect the spices of the island and the colours of the building. The hotel’s lush tropical gardens, white sand beach and turquoise lagoon provide calm and beautiful spaces for reflection. The main building opens onto the swimming pool, shaded by tall palm trees and facing out onto the pristine beach. In the evening, the atmosphere really comes into its own when the subtle yet dramatic lighting creates a quintessentially romantic but understated ambience. For something very special, La Barachois is the resort’s floating restaurant, which is reached through the mangrove by a snaking walkway and serves seafood and Mauritian specialities. Alternatively, the spacious and open-sided L’Archipel is the hotel’s A la Carte restaurant and has a separate lounge area with semi-private sections where you can enjoy an aperitif and peruse the extensive dinner menu. A wide variety of complimentary facilities are available at the resort, including tennis, bicycles, snorkelling trips and glass bottom boat excursions. If you want to enjoy your honeymoon at a more relaxed pace, you can spend your days on the lovely white sand beach or in the cosy library that has a range of books and board games. Housed in traditional-style buildings amongst the grounds, over the lagoon and on the beachfront, the spacious guestrooms have been luxuriously furnished with teak floors, understated colours and large bathrooms. The villas are undeniably luxurious, with an outdoor bath, and a living room with a dining and sitting area. A number of the villas are on a ground floor level and have a private pool and direct beach access, whilst others are on stilts over the lagoon and have no pool. Constance Le Prince Maurice is a very special hotel that has a most enchanting atmosphere and exudes an understated style and elegance.
