Our opinion
East Winds is a secluded hotel full of character and West Indian charm
Hotel description
Situated in a secluded spot on a sandy beach at La Brelotte Bay, at the end of a partly-made road between Castries and Rodney Bay, St Lucia’s East Winds Inn is full of West Indian charm and oozes local character. In 8 acres of beautiful tropical gardens bursting with mango trees, palms and frangipani, the accommodation at the East Winds hotel consists of single-storey cottages, many covered in wooden board and painted pale green, in Caribbean gazebo style. East Winds’ cool interiors are also Caribbean-colonial in style, furnished with mostly locally made furniture and ceiling fans, and all have a patio, terrace or veranda in keeping with the atmosphere of the rooms. The main building houses the open-air restaurant and bar. There is also a freeform swimming pool at East Winds Inn with a swim-up bar, and a sunset bar on the edge of the beach. The open-air Club House also has its own cocktail bar - a real feature of the East Winds hotel. The cuisine must be a highlight of a stay at East Winds. Under the expert guidance of award-winning chef Franck Chévrier, you will be exquisitely wined and dined with international and Caribbean dishes and daily vegetarian options. Buffets and grills are a special feature of the hotel, including a Friday night lobster grill. At dinner there is a choice of 3 or 4 different wines selected from the hotel wine cellar of the season. Dinner at East Winds Inn is accompanied by appropriate low-key entertainment such as piano, soft jazz, calypso and traditional music of St Lucia. East Winds appeals greatly because of its relaxed and homely atmosphere, secluded location and traditional charm. A nature walk around the property has been devised identifying the numerous indigenous plants, flowers and trees and describing the many species of bird that inhabit these beautiful tropical gardens. One of the most discreet and unlikely all-inclusives we know, St Lucia’s East Winds Inn is highly recommended.
