Our opinion
Anse Chastanet is an enticing, original hotel with abundant local flavour and character, relaxed and charming.
Hotel description
Set on a lush tropical estate of 600 acres on the coast with views of the famous Piton mountains in St Lucia, the Anse Chastanet resort enjoys a stunning setting on a sandy beach with a second beach nearby. Designed for people who desire seclusion and to be off the beaten track, Anse Chastanet has 49 rooms landscaped into the hillside and surrounded by tropical vegetation. Some of the newer and premium rooms have been designed by Nick Troubetzkoy, the hotel’s architect and owner, to blend harmoniously into the natural environment to the extent that they have open ‘walls’ and ‘windows’. Locally made hardwood furniture, clay tiles, cheerful St Lucian fabric and original paintings by local and well-known international artists complement the original and dramatic tone here at the Anse Chastanet hotel. The smaller and older rooms are enclosed with wooden or glass louvred windows. Rooms do not have radios, telephones or televisions. There are a hundred steps from the beach to Anse Chastanet’s hillside rooms, so it is not recommended for disabled guests. The cheerful Piton restaurant and bar is perched on the hillside affording dramatic views of the ocean and mountains. Here breakfast and dinner are served. Down on Anse Chastanet’s beach are another restaurant and bar, where light meals are served at lunchtime. The cuisine at the Anse Chastanet hotel is a proud blend of Caribbean and creole based on fresh, local produce, under the direction of a chef with a Michelin-starred background. The bay is protected by a reef and is now designated a marine reserve; the Anse Chastanet resort is renowned for its scuba diving centre with qualified instruction. Its Kai Belté spa offers a wide range of treatments, from Ayurvedic to hot stone therapies, featuring specially created beauty products. A new yoga pavilion has recently been added at beach level. Its unique philosophy of luxurious detachment from the modern world and integration with the natural makes St Lucia’s Anse Chastanet hotel a wonderfully relaxing place to stay.
