Our opinion
Hermitage Bay is an intimate, charming and luxurious hideaway
Hotel description
Hermitage Bay opened during the last few years and is a luxurious boutique resort of just 25 individual, cottage suites landscaped into the natural beauty of a bay and hillside of tropical gardens overlooking the white sand beach which is 1200 feet long. The bay was discovered a few years ago by the current owners of the hotel in one of the most secluded corners of Antigua and the land had been in private ownership for over a hundred years. The cottages nestle into the hillside and also are landscaped along the beach facing the beautiful white sand. Hermitage Bay is managed by people who have worked in Antigua for many years and they have selected their staff carefully for their friendliness and efficiency. Service is discreet and attentive. Your days can be spent on the beach, partaking of some of the non-motorised water sports on offer (no motorised ones are available to maintain the peaceful environment), enjoying a spa treatment, lounging by the pool or in a private area of the gardens. The beachside restaurant, tiered at different levels to afford each table a spectacular view, serves a varied menu of both Caribbean favourites and modern European with the emphasis on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Lunch is also offered around the shaded patio and pool areas. The cottage suites are detached and are built from tropical hardwoods and have shingle roofs. They are decorated in white and neutral shades and have contemporary colonial furnishings. The hillside suites have a spacious deck area that incorporates open air lounge area, dining area and day beds. In addition these suites have their own plunge pool and panoramic sea views. The beach cottages are located in two rows just back from the beach and all have a large veranda with day bed. This is a charming, luxurious, intimate hideaway, quite unique for Antigua.
